Kayesu Beth Nakunda has been officially confirmed as the NRM flag bearer for Wakiso District Woman Member of Parliament after the NRM Elections Dispute Tribunal upheld her victory in the recently concluded party primaries. The primaries, which were conducted on July 17, 2025, were marked by tension after incidents of missing declaration forms and delays in tallying results. Despite these challenges, provisional results released the following day placed Kayesu in the lead with 46,792 votes, ahead of Radhiyyah Namakula with 31,090 and Rosemary Kirabira with 24,867.
Following the declaration, Kirabira petitioned the NRM tribunal, contesting the outcome and raising claims of multiple voting, intimidation of her agents, denial of access to declaration forms, and inflation of results in certain areas. Her legal team argued that the election was not conducted in accordance with the principles of a free and fair process and asked the tribunal to either declare her winner or annul the election.
In its ruling delivered yesterday, the tribunal carefully examined the allegations and the evidence presented but concluded that the petitioner had not substantiated her claims to the required standard. It found that while there were administrative challenges in some polling areas, the process substantially complied with NRM electoral guidelines and the principles of a fair contest. As such, the tribunal dismissed the petition and affirmed Kayesu Beth Nakunda as the duly elected NRM flag bearer for Wakiso District Woman Member of Parliament.
Appearing on her social media platforms shortly after the ruling, Kayesu thanked Ugandans, and particularly the people of Wakiso, for the trust they placed in her. She praised their patience throughout the tense wait for the tribunal’s decision, describing the victory as one not just for her, but for the people who believe in a strong leadership. With a reconciliatory message, she promised to work hand in hand with both those who won and those who lost, pledging to put unity and development of Wakiso above all political differences.
Her triumph, now sealed by the tribunal, sets the stage for her to carry the NRM flag into the 2026 general elections with renewed legitimacy and the confidence of her supporters.
